Warning: PS3 3D “Could Make You Feel Sick”

…according to Sony’s latest Terms of Service update.

“Some people may experience discomfort (such as eye strain, eye fatigue or nausea) while watching 3D video images or playing stereoscopic 3D games on 3D televisions. SCEA recommends that all viewers take regular breaks while watching 3D video or playing stereoscopic 3D games. The length and frequency of necessary breaks may vary from person to person. Please take breaks that are long enough to allow any feelings of discomfort to subside. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.”

It also goes on to say how young children should stay clear of the PlayStation 3 3D technology altogether.

“SCEA recommends that you consult your doctor (such as a pediatrician or eye doctor) before allowing young children to watch 3D video images or play stereoscopic 3D games. Adults should supervise young children to ensure they follow the recommendations listed above.”

That would be a great shame, especially considering the amount of fantastic games that will be using the technology. Gran Turismo 5, MotorStorm Apocalypse and Killzone 3 are all on the list.

The solution? Play games in 3D anyway- surely not much harm can be done?

What We’ve Been Playing – June 2010 Edition

PlayStation Future LogoWith E3 now everything but a distant memory, it’s safe to say that this year’s event brought some huge surprises to nearly everyone, with a Gran Turismo 5 release date being announced and the Sly Cooper HD Remake also making an appearance as well as tonnes more stuff coming, I think we can be pretty sure that this year’s PS3 (and PSP) line-up could quite possibly be the best yet.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here, seeing as this is where we tell you what we’ve been up to in the gaming world recently. With those May releases slowly drifting away and the relentless pace of video game releases slowly decreasing, it’s been a nice month to catch up on all of those little gems that we missed out on when they were first released.

Classic Gaming Series That Need a Reboot – Part 1

Tekken 6It happens now and again in the gaming world; a classic series brought to its knees by the industry’s obsession with sequels. This isn’t just a problem in the gaming world either, movies have it just as bad if not worse; just look at the James Bond films to see a text-book example. Generally, the only way to fix the situation is to kill off the series altogether (Home Alone) or bring it back to life with a ‘reboot’ (Batman).

Let’s take a look at three critically acclaimed gaming franchises that have taken one too many wrong turns and have reached the point where they can only be saved by a full reboot: Read more

What We’ve Been Playing – May 2010 Edition

PlayStation Future LogoSo, here at PlayStation Future this week we’re starting up a new monthly article – What We’ve Been Playing. This article will go live at the end of each month detailing how we at PlayStation Future have been spending our time in the gaming world. Every member will list a game that they have been putting the most time into over the previous four weeks before saying a few words about other games they’ve been playing, games they’ve been looking at getting, or games that are shaping up to be really exciting.

This May saw a bombshell of games drop down from the developers’ heavens with the likes of Red Dead Redemption, ModNation Racers, Split/Second, Blur, Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time, 3D Dot Game Heroes and much much more landing on our consoles. With E3, arguably the biggest gaming event of the year, just a few weeks away it’s no wonder that a buzz of excitement has been building in the videogaming industry. But enough of the future, what have we been playing this month?

Today On FirstPlay – 2nd June

Episode 009 is the first episode of June, and at the time of writing information about this episode has been very sparse indeed. Not to worry though, I’ve done some digging to find out as much as I can about this episode, and it looks to be a fine one indeed. We’re well in to the minis marathon now, with the third of four minis being given away in this episode – Age of Zombies (worth £3.99), also on the agenda is a review of ModNation Racers and a review of Red Dead Redemption. Demos and Avatars in the featured downloads section have been promised after the minis marathon is over too!

Another week, another episode of FirstPlay, and it’s pleasing to see yet another healthy dose of content on offer by the Future crew. This week’s episode saw a couple of racing reviews as well as a trailer for quite possibly the best looking game on PS3 – Crysis 2 (sorry Uncharted 2!). On the screenshots side of things, there are some awesome shots of Demon’s Souls, Saw II and the spooky Castlevania: Lord of Shadows. In Network Highlights, there’s some help for you God of War fans, and a round up of content on the store, minis, and LBP levels. This week also features Blast Off, a free PS mini for your gaming pleasure as well as a Dead Space 2 theme!
