In all honesty, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo came as a bit of a shock to me. Having only recently started playing PC games, my only other experience of Battlefield was the PSN/XBL title Battlefield: 1943, which I found slightly disappointing. While fun for a while, it comes with only four maps and the gameplay eventually became slow and boring. After the first game of  Bad Company 2 it was clear that this game is on another level altogether.

As a keen player of the critically aclaimed Modern Warfare 2, I found Bad Company 2 to be a breath of fresh air and a welcome change of pace. Though Modern Warfare 2 is a great game, it does have its flaws. With no new maps in sight for a while, I have been feeling the urge for something to come in and take its place. In my mind, this is exactly what Bad Company 2 has done.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 feels fresh, exciting and has finally hit the nail on the head with vehicular combat – something which Call Of Duty 5: World at War and Battlefield: 1943 both struggled with. In Bad Company 2, the power of the vehicles is spot on. It is as pointless to have a tank that does no damage as it is to have a tank that just kills everyone, with little in the way to stop it. Bad Company 2 hits the sweet spot where the vehicles have just the right balance of power. Another key weapon is Bad Company 2′s armoury is destructable scenery; tanks can crush trees and infintary can blast away at cover with an RPG, allowing you to mow down the sheepish enemy previously taking cover behind it.

The demo provides you with one map called Port Valdez. This is a snow-based map in which the attacking team have to plant or destroy a series of bombs to blow up the fuel station; the defending team have to prevent this from happening. Players are also allowed to unlock one weapon from each class, comprising Assault, Engineer, Medic and Recon (which is the sniper class).

The only negative point I can make about the demo is that there is just the one map to play on, which only goes to reinforce how good the demo really is: I simply cannot wait to get my hands on the full game. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is out on the 5th March; come back then to read our full review of the finished game.
